Synopsis from Goodreads: When Annie moves from London to a small town in the midwest, she struggles to fit in. She gets off to a bad start when she makes an enemy of her school's queen bee, Kelsey. But she discovers a new passion, the exciting sport of roller derby, and makes friends with the cool and quirky girls on her team, the Liberty Belles. She also meets Jesse, the friendly boy who works at the roller rink, and Tyler, a cute, all-American sports star.

Roller Derby just seems like the coolest sport. Awesome outfits, fun make-up, and Drew Barrymore made a film about it with Ellen Page, Kirsten Wiig and Alia Shawkat (what you haven’t seen Whip It? Go watch it now!). Annie moves to the US from London with her American dad, leaving her English mum behind, as well as her passion for gymnastics that she had to give up because she got too tall for it. She tries out for the cheerleading squad but is put off by their bitchy attitude and soon falls in love with the supportive atmosphere and the addictive adrenaline of Roller Derby instead.
Falling Hard is basically a Meg Cabot book if Meg Cabot wrote about Roller Derby instead of princesses. It has a fun, chatty style and lots of descriptions of what people are wearing. Plus the fact that it’s obviously part of a series. I thought Annie was a cute character and I liked her relationship with her new artistic friend Lexie. Her cake-wielding, accent-melding Dad was fun too.
If you feel like a fun, light read with added Roller Derby then Falling Hard is for you!
